To help make your first day of classes that much easier, ÃÛѨÊÓƵ has partnered with Barnes & Noble College to provide the course materials students need at no additional cost through a new program called First Day Complete.
About First Day Complete
For the 2024-25 school year, with First Day Complete, 'shopping' for your course materials just became easier. An online system allows you to pick up your materials in one, handy bag or via online delivery without having to wander the bookstore or shop around on multiple websites.
As part of First Day Complete, students will:
- Receive all course materials before the first day of class
- Benefit from a highly personalized concierge service
- And, not be charged for these materials

Upon registering for courses, you will be automatically enrolled into the program. Once you've successfully selected your courses, the bookstore will start preparing your order.

An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) in Blackboard.

What is the First Day Complete program? First Day Complete ensures that all students across all courses have access to their required textbooks on or before the first day of class, allowing them to engage with course content from day one and support their academic success.

What is included in the program? The program provides all required textbooks, access codes and digital textbook versions to all students for each course they are registered for. Some kinds of courseware can be included in First Day Complete. These materials are identified and submitted by the faculty member who is teaching the course.

How much does the program cost? Through this program, all required course materials for all ÃÛѨÊÓƵ students are provided at no additional cost. These materials are prepared by the bookstore and provided as rental materials to the student on or before the first day of class.

Why did ÃÛѨÊÓƵ partner with Barnes & Noble on this program? First Day Complete guarantees that students will have all required course materials by the time classes start – something that frequently didn’t happen in the past, especially for more financially at-risk students. In examining the long-term costs and benefits, the university decided the program has the ability to significantly impact student retention and success.

Which students have access to First Day Complete? Currently, all ÃÛѨÊÓƵ students – undergraduate, graduate and online and continuing education students – will receive their required textbooks at no additional cost.

What is excluded from the program? The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused, such as goggles, dissection kits, art kits, molecular model kits or nursing kits. It also does not include texts that are “recommended” or “optional” rather than required by professors, or tools such as calculators.

How does the program work? As a student, you register for your classes.
One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to review your courses and course materials on your personalized course page and select your fulfillment preference – free in-store pickup or shipped directly to you for an additional flat fee.
The bookstore prepares your materials. You will receive an email notification when your materials ship or are ready to be picked up. Your digital materials will be available in Blackboard (ÃÛѨÊÓƵ’s learning management system) by the first day of class.

How do I enroll in the program? All ÃÛѨÊÓƵ students will be automatically enrolled in the program each semester. Roughly 30 days before classes begin, you will receive an email from Barnes & Noble asking for your delivery preference – free in-store pickup or shipped directly to you for an additional flat fee.

What happens if I add or drop a course? If you add or drop a course, you will be provided instructions for returning your course materials and/or delivery options for materials for any new courses that you add.

Does it matter how many credit hours I take? No. This program covers all courses.

How do I pay for my textbook rentals under this program? With First Day Complete, all required textbooks are provided at no additional cost. The items excluded from the program are consumables that cannot be returned and reused (goggles, supplies, kits, etc.) and any required or optional texts that you choose to purchase.

Can I opt out of the program? All electronic course materials provided through Blackboard will be available to all students. Students may choose to purchase printed textbooks from alternative sources; however, this will not result in a credit or refund.

How do I access electronic materials in Blackboard? To access your course materials, log in to Blackboard using your school credentials. Once you are in Blackboard, select your course then look for the “Course Materials” link.
For eBooks:
- If your instructor has chosen an eBook, you will see the “Read Now” button. Clicking on this button will launch the BNC eBook reader and take you directly to your eBook. There are several tools and features you can use with your eBook such as highlighting and adding notes.
For publisher courseware (will be delivered through one of the following):
- Publisher delivery: If the material is embedded directly into your course through deep-linking or learning modules, you will only see the cover image of the materials for this course. The notes section of this type of course will inform you where to go to locate your publisher courseware.
- SSO: In this case, you will see the “Launch Courseware” button. Clicking on this button will take you directly to your courseware on the publisher’s website, where you will be automatically logged into the courseware and can begin using your material immediately.
- Access code reveal: For certain publishers, you will access your publisher courseware by clicking on the “Reveal Access Code” button. To access this material, copy the access code and click the link to the publisher’s website. Once on the publisher’s site, input the code to access your course material. You may need to create an account or sign in (if you already have an account) before gaining access to your material.

Can I buy my rented textbook? Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period.

Do I need to return books if they are for a continuation course? Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

When are my textbook rentals due back to the bookstore? The deadline to return all rental textbooks is two weeks following the last day of finals. Students will receive email reminders about the rental deadline to their email address.

What happens if I do not return the books by the due date? Students may choose to keep the books for a cost of up to 75% of the price of a new textbook. Students who do not return the books may be ineligible for participation in First Day Complete in future semesters.
Faculty FAQ

How do I submit my textbook requests? Textbook requests will be submitted using the existing system for faculty submissions. Textbook requests must be submitted by deadlines provided by Barnes & Noble. For more information on how to log in and place your textbook orders, .

What steps do I need to take to prepare for the first day of class with the First Day Complete program? - Ensure that the Barnes & Noble College Course Materials link is installed so students can access their digital course materials.
- Make sure you have completed the course setup/pairing for your digital courseware products. If you need assistance, please contact your publisher representative.

I use open access or free materials. How will this be affected? Instructors can continue to use open access materials for their courses. Using open source and free materials helps keep the overall cost to the university down.
First Day Complete works within the BlackBoard LMS for the provision of electronic materials. Faculty can continue to add free materials to their BlackBoard sites and use educational materials on other sites. However, accessing online course materials outside the LMS is not included in the program.

Are simulations and courseware included with First Day Complete? The First Day Complete program includes required textbooks and textbook supplements, both print and electronic versions. Some courseware may be available for inclusion. It is generally in the interest of both B&N and ÃÛѨÊÓƵ to interpret this as broadly as possible. Simulations that are typically bundled with textbooks and that can be included in the BlackBoard LMS can typically be included in First Day Complete, but not all simulations can be made available through the program.
