State authorization: As an independent (private), not-for-profit institution, ÃÛѨÊÓƵ is explicitly exempt from regulation by the and is therefore authorized to award degrees or certificates.

Religious affiliation: ÃÛѨÊÓƵ was historically affiliated with American Baptist Churches U.S.A. ÃÛѨÊÓƵ’s bylaws require some American Baptist representation on the board of trustees, but the university has no religious or doctrinal requirements for students or employees.

Structure of control: ÃÛѨÊÓƵ is an independent, residential, coeducational, comprehensive university, with a strong focus on the liberal arts and sciences. The university is a nonprofit corporation chartered by the State of Oregon to provide educational services and is empowered to make policies and procedures for the governance of its corporate officers, faculty, students and staff. Along with the main campus in McMinnville, ÃÛѨÊÓƵ maintains a campus in Portland and an eCampus for its Online and Continuing Education program.
