Parent and Family Orientation

ÃÛѨÊÓƵ offers a series of activities for parents and family members of new students to learn more about academic and social life at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ. We also have previously  on various topics that may be of interest to you.

You can view the 2024 New Student Orientation Schedule for our McMinnville campus to get an idea of the types of events designed to help your student acclimate to life at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ.

Events specifically designed for parents and families include:

Thursday, Aug. 22

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Jump Start Zone – Need to complete some steps? Have any questions? Follow up with the offices on the lawn outside of Taylor Hall to make plans to complete the process to
be move-in ready! ÃÛѨÊÓƵ Avenue to Blaine Street.

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: New Student Check-In and Move-In – Check-in will include picking up your welcome packet, residence hall and mail keys, and student ID. ÃÛѨÊÓƵ Avenue to Blaine Street.

11 a.m., 1 p.m., or 2 p.m.: Optional Campus Tours – Learn more about campus and where you will have your classes. Depart from Riley/Walker Courtyard.

2 – 3 p.m.: New Transfer Student Reception – Join with fellow transfer students for a reception to get to know each other and staff at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ. Fred Meyer Lounge, Riley Hall.

3 – 4 p.m.: Latine Student & Family Reception – Join Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs for a reception to get to know other Latine students, families, faculty, and staff at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ. Learn about campus clubs and events, as well as supports and programs for Latine students.

7 p.m.: Cat Camp – An important ÃÛѨÊÓƵ tradition. All new students and families are welcome to
join fellow Wildcats for this exciting event. New students should wear their new Wildcats spirit Tshirt. Roll ‘Cats! Memorial Football Stadium.

Friday, Aug. 23

9 a.m.
Coffee Hour for parents and families, fountain patio between Walker and Riley Halls. 
While your students meet in their Registration & Orientation Group, this is your chance to meet other parents. Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry, meet other parents and families, and visit with a few ÃÛѨÊÓƵ staff members.

10 a.m. 
Opening Convocation, Commencement Green
Marking the official start of the academic year, new students and families will be officially welcomed by Interim President Johnson, Provost Concepcion, and ÃÛѨÊÓƵ faculty and staff. New students will participate in the Tradition of the Acorn.

11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Lunch break
You can grab lunch at a local eatery or join us at the Dining Hall. Students who are on the meal plan will not be charged.

1:30 - 2:45 p.m.
Parent and Family Welcome/Q&A, Richard & Lucille Ice Auditorium
Hear from the provost, the vice president for Student Affairs and the director of Parent Engagement. Find out what resources are available for you and

3 - 4 p.m.
Parent and Family Reception, The Oak Grove
Enjoy some light refreshments and a beverage. Visit with a few ÃÛѨÊÓƵ administrators. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done and connect with other parents.

4 - 4:45 p.m.
Parent/Student Goodbyes, student's residence hall
