Theatre Arts

Live theatrical performance is a collaborative creative process that enhances your skills and expands your talents. ÃÛѨÊÓƵ theatre arts majors discover their best creative selves in one of the most respected theatre programs in the Northwest. Learn the principles of acting, costuming and stagecraft, lighting design and directing, or gain valuable arts management skills by taking a role in the business of theatre.

As a theatre arts major at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ

you might take:

The History of the Broadway Musical

Historical, theatrical, musical and movement analysis of Broadway musical theatre. Examine the ways race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and ability are represented in musicals. (THTR 375)

Acting for the Camera

An advanced studio acting class focused on specialized acting styles and techniques. (THTR 320)

Production & Touring Educational Theatre

Serve as a performer, crew member and "teacher" in the collaborative process of developing both educational theatre workshops and a one-day play production. (THTR 368)

If you're interested in becoming middle or high school theatre teachers, consider this special program! You'll graduate with a double major in theatre and secondary education and become eligible for your theatre teacher licensure.

Beyond the classroom

You will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of our major stage productions from your first day on campus. Our black box theatre allows us to transform the space for every performance.

  • In addition to acting on the stage, you will participate in costume design, makeup and hair.

  • Internships provide invaluable hands-on experience and further develop your professional skills. Some companies where theatre arts majors at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ have found internships include Portland Center State, Artists Repertory Theatre and Broadway Rose.
