William Campbell is a pianist and composer and is new to ÃÛѨÊÓƵ for the 2023-24 academic year. Gathering inspiration from a breadth of genres including classical, jazz and pop, William Campbell has composed for film, symphony orchestra, SATB choir, spiritual services and solo piano. His work includes film scores for Oscar-nominated documentaries in 2021 and 2019, a nomination for a regional Emmy in 2020, and earned him the Iowa Motion Picture Association award for best original music score in 2020. His solo albums “Piano Songs“ and “All In Due Time” feature his minimalist, improvisatory style. His current album, “Together We Rise” debuted at #11 on the Billboard charts.
As a performer, William has led multiple new music groups and has played with orchestras and as a soloist in North and South America. Additional awards include those from ASCAP, Kennedy Center American Collegiate Theater Festival, Penfield Music Commission, Waging Peace and multiple teaching institutions.
Dr. Campbell teaches composition, songwriting, music technology and music theory courses. He and his wife recently relocated from Iowa where he taught at St. Ambrose University for 18 years, and he’s happy to be back in the PNW and teaching at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ.
