Dr. Muir received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Oregon State University in 2012. Following this he helped found a startup company working to commercialize new thin-film electronics for flexible displays. Dr. Muir has been granted multiple U.S. and international patents for his inventions and has obtained more than $1.5M in National Science Foundation funding for these efforts. He is excited to help students develop skills in the classroom and lab that will enable them to thrive in many different careers.

Academic interests

Dr. Muir believes the world's greatest challenges require interdisciplinary solutions and enjoys working at the intersection of chemistry, physics and engineering. 

He is primarily interested in the development of new solid-state materials to advance flexible electronics, clean energy and quantum computing.

Dr. Muir also believes innovation and entrepreneurship is an important part of STEM. He is excited to help students connect classroom, lab and research experiences with life beyond campus.
