Dr. Zeitzer holds a master's degree in bioethics and a doctoral degree with a focus on nursing ethics from the Univerisity of Pennsylvania, in addition to a Master's in Nursing as an acute care nurse practitioner. She has practiced in a variety of settings including cardiothoracic, surgical trauma and medical intensive care units, vascular surgery, as well as overnight summer camp for children.

Her research focuses on ethical issues nurses encounter within the healthcare system and inpatient interactions. She consults on issues and cases involving ethical dilemmas helping practitioners reason through difficult choices. Publications include articles and book chapters discussing ethical issues in nursing practice, critical care and advanced practice among others. Her teaching currently includes professional communication for nurses and chronic conditions throughout the lifespan.

Academic interests

Dr. Zeitzer's research and scholarship focus on the ethical issues nurses encounter in their professional roles, the effects of those ethical issues, and how to best educate and prepare nurses to deal with what they encounter.
