Meet Psychology Ambassador Mandy Dewey ’25

Posted on 09.13.24 by Mandy Dewey ’25 in College of Arts & Science

Hi! My name is Mandy.portrait of Mandy Dewey.

I am from Gresham, OR and I am double majoring in psychology and mathematics with a neuroscience minor. I came to ÃÛѨÊÓƵ directly after high school, and like many students, was unsure what I wanted to major in. I have always been interested in psychology related topics, but after taking a psychology class in high school, I wasn’t sure I would be interested in taking more. Fortunately, I decided to take survey of psychology during my first semester at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ, and since then I haven’t looked back.

During my time at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ, the psychology department community has really stood out. There have been many ways that I have been able to get involved (research teams, work study, internships, being a teaching assistant, psych club, Psi Chi) and taking classes with peers who are interested in similar topics creates great discussions. The professors are also amazing because they truly care about their students and will help support you in whatever ways they can. With so many opportunities in the psychology department, I have found that the more I get involved, the more I get out of my education as a whole.

Some activities outside of school that I enjoy doing are hiking, drawing, reading, line dancing, and napping. All of these have helped me maintain some balance when classes are busy or jobs feel overwhelming, which is really important for getting through college! We will all have challenges along the way, but by finding a community and experimenting with what works best for you, you will help set yourself up for success!

Now that I am in my senior year at ÃÛѨÊÓƵ, I want to be able to help other students in the ways that my peers have supported me. I enjoy having conversations about psychology and the psych department, so don't be afraid to reach out! The psych department would love to hear from you!
